You’ve already learned how to be a therapist. Now learn how to guide, evaluate, and support the next generation of clinicians. Our online, self-paced course provides the 45 contact hours of clinical supervision training North Carolina requires for the Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) credential, with practical tools you’ll use in real supervision.
Kate Walker Training has offered supervisor training since 2006, when Dr. Kate Walker, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, began teaching it with Dr. Judy DeTrude. Kate Walker Training is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP No. 7040) and a CCE Registered Credential Training Provider (RCTP #1016-ACS).
North Carolina board rules (21 NCAC 53 .0209(a) and .0801(a)) require 45 contact hours of continuing education in clinical supervision to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS). The rules leave the content areas to the training provider.
21 NCAC 53 .0801(b) requires LCMHCS supervisors to state that they follow the CCE Approved Clinical Supervisor code of ethics, so this course covers the ten content areas in the CCE ACS Eligibility Policy.
The training is one part of the requirements. You must also hold an LCMHC license, meet the board’s experience requirements, and apply to the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, which makes the final decision. According to the board, LCMHCS supervisors then complete at least 10 contact hours of supervision-focused continuing education each renewal period.
Review the current requirements on the board’s LCMHCS page.

"The ability to reach out and talk with Kate and the optional weekly Study Halls... The content really made you think about what you would do and the best way to approach your job as gatekeeper for the profession. I also liked the fact that once completed, I had a supervision contract and a document that I can use for orientation of new supervisees."
LaTonya Hendricks, course graduate, April 2023
