You’ve already learned how to be a therapist. Now learn how to guide, evaluate, and support the next generation of clinicians. Our online, self-paced course provides the 45 hours of clinical supervision training required for the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential from the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE), with practical tools you’ll use in real supervision.
Kate Walker Training has offered supervisor training since 2006, when Dr. Kate Walker, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, began teaching it with Dr. Judy DeTrude. Kate Walker Training is a CCE Registered Credential Training Provider (RCTP #1016-ACS).
CCE requires 45 clock hours of clinical supervision training covering ten content areas: roles and functions of clinical supervisors; theoretical frameworks and models; supervisory relationship issues; methods and techniques; group supervision; evaluation, remediation, and gatekeeping; technology; administrative procedures; legal and ethical issues; and culturally responsive supervision.
The training is one part of ACS eligibility. CCE also requires a master’s degree or higher in a mental health field, a current license or NBCC certification, five years of post-master’s experience including at least 4,000 hours of direct client service, and at least 100 hours of clinical supervision you have provided. You apply directly to CCE, and CCE issues the credential.

Need a state supervisor designation? Requirements vary by state, so confirm with your state licensing board whether the ACS meets its requirements. See our state-specific supervisor trainings.

"The ability to reach out and talk with Kate and the optional weekly Study Halls... The content really made you think about what you would do and the best way to approach your job as gatekeeper for the profession. I also liked the fact that once completed, I had a supervision contract and a document that I can use for orientation of new supervisees."
LaTonya Hendricks, course graduate, April 2023

Additional states to research*
Our own review of state board rules suggests these states may also accept the ACS. They do not appear on CCE's list:
*Please research these states yourself before enrolling. Read your state board's current supervisor rules or contact the board directly to confirm whether the ACS meets its requirements and whether anything else is required.
State rules vary and change over time. Recognition of the ACS does not by itself grant a state supervisor designation, and some states have additional requirements. Confirm current requirements with your state licensing board and with CCE before enrolling.

Five years of post-master’s experience, including at least 4,000 hours of direct client service, and at least 100 hours of clinical supervision you have provided
